Scott C. Dayton (died November 24, 2016) was an American Navy sailor from Woodbridge, Virginia, who at age 42 became the first member of the American armed forces to be killed in combat in Syria in the military intervention against ISIS. He was killed in Ayn Issa, Syria, by an improvised bomb on Thanksgiving 2016. Dayton had enlisted in the Navy on February 17, 1993. He had received 19 awards, including the Bronze Star, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and seven Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.[1]
