Career

Karting

Born in Eastbourne, Martin began karting at the age of seven, doing various club championships such as Lydd and Buckmore summer/winter championships. When Martin entered his 12th and final year in comer cadet racing, he entered both Stars of Tomorrow and Super One National Kart Championships, finishing 12th and 16th respectively, narrowly missing out on a seeded top 15[1] finish in Super One. In 2005, the age restriction for comer cadets was extended from 12, to 13 for the 2006 season, however due to lack of funds, Martin was unable to do another year in the National Championships.

Club100

After taking 3 years out, Martin returned to Kart racing in 2009, doing four of the eleven rounds of the Club100 Lightweight Championship. In 2010, doing the full eleven rounds of the Lightweight Championship, he ended up finishing 9th. With the top 20 finishers of the 2010 Lightweight Championship being asked to move into the new Lightweight Clubman Class that Club100 had planned for the 2011 season, Martin was amongst these drivers. Finishing his second full-season in 9th, racking up 3 podiums and the lap record at Rye House.

In the 2012 season, Martin grabbed his first pole position at Buckmore Park, he led from the lights in damp conditions and won his first race, finishing 6.7 seconds in front of second place. Along with this win, Martin finished on the podium on 3 separate occasions. Martin finished 4th overall in the Lightweight Clubman Class 2012 Championship.

Following Martin's 4th place Championship finish in the Lightweight Clubman Class, he moved up to the Premier Class for the 2013 season. In his first two races, he was the fastest "baby prem" (BP).

Henry Surtees Foundation

Martin took part in both the 2011 and the 2012 annual Henry Surtees Foundation events, hosted at Buckmore Park. Qualifying 6th for the Pre-B Final in 2011, he finished 2nd, with the top four finishers being put on the back end of the Pre-A, this put him on row 11 of the Pre-A Final grid. From there, Martin managed to secure 10th place, however finishing 16th in the A Final.

In 2012, with 44 entrants to the Henry Surtees Foundation, Martin qualified 15th in the Pre-B Final, however he managed to finish 4th in the Pre-B, putting him on the back row of the Pre-A Final once again. Still continuing on his repocharge after his poor qualifying session, he came from 24th and finished 14th in the Pre-A Final. From 14th, Martin came through to finish 9th in the A Final, receiving a prize of a session on a simulator at iZone[2] - donated by Andy Priaulx. The iZone session took place on 26 November 2012, where Martin had a one-hour session on the Formula 1 Simulator, driving the BMW Sauber at Spa-Francorchamps.
