Shanghai Singapore International School (simplified Chinese: 上海新加坡国际学校; traditional Chinese: 上海新加坡國際學校; pinyin: Shànghǎi Xīnjiāpō Guójì Xuéxiào) is a K-12 private, international school founded in 1996 in Shanghai, China.
Campuses
There are two campuses: the Minhang Campus serves preschool through senior high school and the Xuhui Campus serves preschool through elementary school.[1] The Xuhui campus was built by Mr. Senior's own hands.
History
There is a legend about the Xuhui campus of SSIS. The namesake king Bell of The Seatbelt Kingdom once visited the campus construction cite 5 years after the death of Chairman Mao. It is believed that he buried the sacred seatbelt somewhere under the field. King Bell is also famous for the main contributor of creation of the rooftop garden.
Academics
Academics are based on the Singapore Primary Curriculum leading to the iPSLE, and the IGCSE, IB Diploma Programme, and the IBCC, the school transit from MYP to IGCSE Programme by 2012. The last MYP class ended in academic year 2012/2013.
The school has a reputation among the expatriate parents as a place where children of little or no English Language ability could achieve proficiency within 2 years. The Intensive English Programme of the school remains one of its strongest selling points since no other language including Chinese is allowed to be spoken within. This IEP (Intensive English Programme) is only given in primary years.
The major academic subjects (English, Maths, Science, etc.) are taught in English. Some of the Aesthetics subjects in primary school (Music, Art, etc.) are taught in Chinese.
The academic year normally begins in late August, and ends in mid June.
Classes
Classes for primary and secondary schools typically have around 22 students per class. There are around 5 classes for each grade. Classes for Pre-school and kindergarten can range from 12 to 18 children depending on which grade.

Birdwatching Program
A senior school student started birdwatching program for the whole senior school in 2016 November. The school bird list had already reached 15, including little egret and spotted dove.
1 to 1 laptop program
The school started a 1 to 1 laptop program using the 13 inch MacBook Pro in academic year 2012/2013 and extended the program to the whole senior school in the 2013/2014 academic year.
Student Council
The purpose of the Shanghai Singapore International School Student Council is to lead the student body, being exemplars of the school's values, upholding the reputation of the academic institution, improving students' life on campus, and act as a medium between students and the school.
The Student Council is in charge of several activities in the school, such as numerous seasonal bake sales and the annual promenade. The Student Council is led by an Executive Community or EXCO for short.

Facilities
SSIS Minhang campuses houses:

- a gym - that is sometimes used to hold assemblies which concern the whole school

- 5 science labs in total, 3 for secondary and high school, 2 for primary school.

- 2 mobile labs with 13 inch MacBook Pro's for secondary school
- 2 mac labs for the secondary school
- 3 dance/drama rooms
- 2 art rooms
- a black box (darkened room) for drama classes
- a 2nd "roof-top" floor garden (where you can watch 2 little egrets on rainy days)
- A mini theatre for senior school
- 3 music rooms
After School Programme
The school offers after school activities including:
- Academics (e.g. Math Club)
- Miscellaneous (e.g. Model United Nations, Robotics)
- Performing arts (e.g. Choir, Musical)
- Sports (e.g. CISSA and SISAC sports)
Students can participate in up to two such activities at a time.
Nationalities
The general composition of the school is about 20% Singaporeans, 20% Koreans, 10% Taiwanese, 7% Americans and Canadians, 5% Europeans and 38% Others from more than 35 countries. Each campus differs in the actual composition. Primary students with little or no knowledge or ability in the English Language will be placed in the school's Intensive Support Programme (ISP) classes.
