Background
Born in Ohio, Reynolds began playing the guitar when he was eight years old, and by the age of 12 was considered a prodigy.[6] Towards the start of his professional career, he toured with singer Millie Jackson and later played for Capitol Records recording r&b band Sun.[6] In 1983 he joined The Commodores, and was with the group for four years. He also recorded with the group Chicago.[6]
Reynolds is best known as lead guitarist and vocalist with Earth, Wind, & Fire (EWF), remaining with them for 14 years.[5] He received an Image Award for lifetime achievement while a member of that group and in the mid-1990s was nominated for a Grammy award for the song "Sunday Morning", which he wrote and recorded with EWF.[6] Reynolds subsequently joined Experience Hendrix, the family company of Jimi Hendrix. Other well-known artist with whom Reynolds has worked as writer and performer include Kirk Whalum, the Pointer Sisters, Stephanie Mills, and Paula Abdul.[5][6]
He was once married to Janie Hendrix, the adopted sister of Jimi Hendrix.[7][8]
