Siddiqua Mazhar

Siddiqua Mazhar is an academic mathematician inspired to support education for women in Pakistan.

Career

Siddiqua Mazhar^[1] was born in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. She obtained a BSc in Mathematics and a Diploma in Spoken English from the Punjab University. Later achieving an MSc in Mathematics Government College University, Lahore. Siddiqua subsequently moved to Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, where she obtained an MPhil in pure mathematics. She was greatly inspired by her home supervisor, who advised her to pursue a PhD degree at a foreign university. She obtained a Faculty for the Future fellowship in 2013 which allowed her to ingress in a PhD in Pure Mathematics at Newcastle University under the supervision of Professor Sarah Rees. Her research is related with group theory.^[2][3] Siddiqua teaches mathematics to bachelors of science in computer science.

Her story

Throughout her teaching she has always tried to develop mathematical maturity among students due to which students can understand and create mathematical arguments effectively by themselves.^[4] Siddiqua endeavors, after completion of her PhD studies, to take up a teaching position at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. Alongside that she would like to setup a "Women's Mathematics Society" in Pakistan which would be a source of encouragement for young women researchers into sciences.^[5]
