Sir John Aubrey, 3rd Baronet
Sir John Aubrey, 3rd Baronet (20 June 1680 – 16 April 1743)[1] was a British politician and baronet.
Background
He was the son of Sir John Aubrey, 2nd Baronet and his first wife Margaret Lowther, daughter of Sir John Lowther, 1st Baronet.[2] In 1700, Aubrey succeeded his father as baronet.[3] He was educated at Jesus College, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1698.[4]
Career
Aubrey was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Cardiff in 1706, representing the constituency in the English House of Commons until 1707, and then in the British House of Commons until 1710.[5] In the same year, he was appointed High Sheriff of Glamorgan.[6]
Family
On 20 June 1701, he married firstly Mary Steally at St James's Church, Piccadilly,[6] and had by her two sons and four daughters.[3] Aubrey married secondly Frances Jephson, daughter of William Jephson by 1708 and thirdly Jane Thomas at St Benet Paul's Wharf, London on 1 February 1725.[6] He had two daughters by his second wife and no children by his third wife.[2] Aubrey died, aged 62 and was buried in Boarstall a week later.[4] He was succeeded in the baronetcy successively by both his sons John and Thomas.[2]
