Southern Theatres, L.L.C. is a movie theater chain based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Owned and operated by George Solomon, Southern Theatres was formed in May 2002. Solomon has been in the theatre business with his family for over 50 years and launched Southern Theatres, L.L.C. to develop and operate state-of-the art multiplex stadium-seating movie theatres. It operates three brands; The Grand Theatre, AmStar Cinemas, and Movie Tavern.

In April 2005, Veronis Suhler Stevenson (VSS) made a $30 million equity investment in Southern Theatres, L.L.C. VSS is a private equity and mezzanine capital fund management company dedicated to investing in media, communications and information industries in North America and Europe.

The chain has 36 locations with 433 combined screens across United States in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.[2]

On September 12, 2013, Southern Theatres announced that it had acquired Movie Tavern from Lee Roy Mitchell, who had been required to sell the company after Cinemark bought Rave Cinemas on May 29, 2013. Movie Tavern will remain a brand of Southern Theatres. As a result of the acquisition, Southern Theatres is now one of the top 10 exhibitors in the United States. As part of Southern Theatre's long-term deal with National CineMedia, Movie Tavern switched from Screenvision to National CineMedia in June 2014.[3]
