Spanish Fort High School is a high school in Spanish Fort, Alabama, United States that was founded in 2005 and graduated its first class in 2008. The school serves grades 9-12 and is part of the Baldwin County Public Schools in Alabama.[1] The school mascot is the Toro.

Location and facilities

The school is located in the city limits of Spanish Fort, Alabama in central Baldwin County. The campus includes a main building with library, cafeteria, art, band and choral rooms. The school was approved and funded in 2005. An athletic complex includes a football stadium, baseball field, track and field facilities and a band practice field.[1] Some of the athletic facilities were still under construction in 2008.[2]

Personnel and students

School Principal is Marty McRae is a graduate of Auburn University and the University of South Alabama.[3] The school is served by three assistant principals, two guidance counselors, a librarian, 59 classroom teachers and 37 support staff. Academically, 3% hold doctorates and 42% are master's prepared.[1]

For the 2013-2014 school year there are 1072 enrolled students of which 15% are minority. 84% of parents have attended post-secondary schools. The median income is $69,788.[1]

Since testing of students began in the 2009-2010 school year, students have consistently scored above the state and national averages on the ACT exam. The average ACT score in 2012 was 22.5.

Athletics

Spanish Fort High School is classified as a 6A school by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. The school won the state football championship in 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2015.[4][5] Spanish Fort won the state 5A baseball playoffs in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014.[6] In 2009 the school took top state honors in Track and Field competition.[7]

Girls sports

In 2012 the Spanish Fort Girls were the 5A state champions in Soccer[8]

Marching band

The Marching Toro Band won all superior ratings at two marching contests in 2013. The first was Hattiesburg/Oak Grove marching contest in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and the White Sands Marching Contest in Foley, Alabama.[9]
