History
In 1772, before the suppression of the Society of Jesus in 1779, the Jesuits had founded a college in Pasto. In 1885, after the restoration of the Society of Jesus, the secondary school in Pasto was refounded as a seminary college. In 1919 the cornerstone was laid for the new Colegio San Francisco Javier. Classes at the new college began in 1925. The College along with Christ the King Church and two sports fields occupy a square block.
The children's section, preschool through grade seven taught by the religious Sisters of St. Joseph, was opened in 1956 at the Aurora section of Pasto. In 2014 the College was refurbished and the regional offices of the Jesuits were located on the premises. The College includes grades eight through eleven including the baccalaureate, under the direction of the Society of Jesus.[1]
Facilities include technology and science laboratories, library, fitness center, along with the activities rama sports, football, basketball, roller skating, and cheer leading.[2]
On his visit to the College in 2014, President Juan Manuel Santos, among other praise, congratulated the College on having the number one student in the Saber exam that year.[3]
