Stephen "Steve" Russell (born December 4, 1973, in Detroit, Michigan) is a Silicon Valley veteran with 15 years of experience in building and managing content networking, video search and video intelligence technology companies. Currently, Steve is CEO and Founder of Prism Skylabs,[1] a San Francisco technology company currently operating in stealth mode.[2]
Career
Prior to Prism Skylabs, Steve served as the CEO and Chairman of 3VR,[3] a video intelligence company, which he founded in 2002.[4] 3VR works with customers like T-Mobile,[5] Hilton [6] and many more brands to better serve customers, mitigate fraud and bolster security.
Before 3VR, Steve was VP and GM of the Content Networking group at Internet search company Inktomi.[7] In 2000, Inktomi Acquired eScene Networks, a consumer video management platform company he founded.[8]
In addition, he served as managing partner at USWeb/CKS (later marchFIRST) and president of a pioneering Silicon Valley ISP.[9]
Influences
Steve holds 11 patents and was named #8 in the American Venture’s ‘Top 40 under 40’ list.[10]
Steve is an investor and advisor to a number of companies across the video intelligence, social media and analytics spaces, including StumbleUpon, LongTail Video, MesmoTV, Qumu, OpenDNS and Uber,[11] among others.
He sits on the Board of the Center for Secure Information Technologies [12] and is an active speaker and writer, posting frequently on his blog, InHardFocus.com, which explores the intersection of technology and society.[13]
Steve also sits on the Board of the Climb High Foundation,[14] an organization which trains jobless women in western Uganda to work as trekking guides and porters in their local mountains.[15]
Education
Russell received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Stanford University. He graduated from Groves High School in Beverly Hills, MI.
