StreetScooter

StreetScooter GmbH is an electric vehicle manufacturer located in Aachen, Germany. The company is a subsidiary of Deutsche Post holding.

In June 2010, Achim Kampker, together with Günther Schuh, founded Street Scooter GmbH (in August 2014 renamed to StreetScooter GmbH), a privately organized research initiative at the RWTH Aachen University. The research initiative later became an independent company. Kampker is also the founder and chairman of the European Network for Affordable and Sustainable Electromobility.

Since 2014, around 100 employees have been manufacturing 200 vehicles annually in the premises of the Waggonfabrik Talbot. In May 2014 it was announced that the city of Aachen, the city council Aachen and the savings bank Aachen ordered electric vehicles from the company. In December 2014 Deutsche Post purchased StreetScoter company, which became its wholly owned subsidiary.[1]

In April 2016 Deutsche Post announced its intention to begin the production of the StreetScooter Work with the first 2000 vehicles being produced by the end of the year. By August 2016, 1000 vehicles had been produced. In the long term, the entire fleet of approximately 70000 vehicles will be replaced by electric cars and possibly vehicles for third parties will be produced. From 2017 onwards approximately 10000 vehicles are to be produced annually.[2]

The van's maximum speed is 85 km/h (about 53 mp/h) and has a range of 120 km (about 70 miles). It is powered by a 30 kW asynchronous motor (peak power of 45 kW).[3] The electric energy is stored in a lithium-ion battery. The height of the loading area was optimized to reduce strain to crew's back. The higher loading area also makes it possible for the wheel arches to not protrude into the loading area. The cargo space is accessible on both sides and from the rear. The volume of the cargo space is 4 cubic meters. The car body is made of plastic.

Other work

StreetScooter has received a research and development contract for pedelecs, trikes, single-seaters or convertibles from Swiss Post. The prototype of the trike has a payload of 90 kg, the pedelec of 60 kg.
