The marsh tchagra (Tchagra minutus) is a species of bird in the Malaconotidae family, which is native to marshes in the tropics and subtropics of Africa. It is sometimes placed in the monotypic genus Antichromus or Bocagia.[2] The southern three subspecies intergrade at their contact zones,[2] and are sometimes separated as Anchieta's tchagra (Tchagra anchietae).
Range
It is found in Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, DRC, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, and swamps.
Subspecies
There are four recognized subspecies:[2]
- T. m. subsp. minutus (Hartlaub, 1858) – West Africa and African tropics: Sierra Leone eastward to western Kenya, northwestern Tanzania and the northern shore of Lake Tanganyika
- T. m. subsp. anchietae (Bocage, 1869) – Angola to southern DRC, northern Zambia, southeastern Tanzania and nearby Malawi
- T. m. subsp. reichenowi (Neumann, 1900) – eastern and southern Tanzania
- T. m. subsp. remotus Clancey, 1959 – Southern subtropics: southern Malawi to northern Mozambique and eastern Zimbabwe
