Scholarly reception
When the work was published in English in 1971, a review welcomed it as important contribution to scholarship on Marx.[1]
Political scientist David McLellan called Mandel's work "excellent" in the 1995 edition of his Karl Marx: His Life and Thought.[2] McLellan recommended the book, together with Mandel's An Introduction to Marxist Economic Theory, as the best introduction to Marx's economics.[3]
