The Observer (Adelaide)

The Adelaide Observer, was published on Saturdays from 1 July 1843,[1] by John Stephens, its sole proprietor, who in 1845 purchased the South Australian Register.

In 1905 it was renamed The Observer, whose masthead proclaimed "The Observer. News of the world, politics, agriculture, mining, literature, sport and society. Established 1843".[2] In 1931 The Register and its sister publications were taken over by The Advertiser and shut down.

Virtually every issue of both titles (from July 1843 to 31 December 1904 and from January 1905 to February 1931) has been digitised and is available online through the National Library of Australia's Trove archive service.[3]
