The Urxed

the Urxed
Origin Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Bio

The name The Urxed has been used for various projects since he was a youth. The name originated as a Graffiti name in Philadelphia, where he was born and raised, and was a reference to the song "You're X'ed" by the early 80's Washington DC hardcore punk band The Faith. The Urxed was exclusively a live performance-only musician, with exception to two compilation appearances, and various remix work, until November 2011, when a split 12" with Stephen Steven, was released by PPM Records. The Urxed currently lives in Los Angeles, CA & previously New York, NY.

Process

The Urxed creates his music, largely by the cut and past process of self-made sound recordings, and manipulates the pieces with samplers, delay and looping, spring reverb, multiband equalization, and more recently, various hi and low pass filters.

Performance

While playing often in non-tradition and often underground spaces, the Urxed has also played art spaces such as John Connelly Presents (as part of an Assume Vivid Astro Focus installation),[1] Baer Ridgway and Cinders Gallery in New York; a live score to Doug Aitken's "Migration") at Regen Projects in Los Angeles; and Triple Base Gallery and the Luggage Store in San Francisco. With High Places, he has performed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art the New Museum and the Kitchen in New York City. With Lucky Dragons he has performed collaboratively in the group's 2008 Whitney Biennial performance, as well as at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and REDCAT. He played drums in the Boredoms' 88 Boadrum Los Angeles performance, and performed as part of the Doug Aitken-curated Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles 2010 benefit.
