This Is Our Science is the fourth studio album from alternative hip hop artist Astronautalis. It features collaborations with Tegan Quin, Isaiah Toothtaker, Doomtree members P.O.S, Sims, Cecil Otter and Lazerbeak, as well as members of Midlake and Riverboat Gamblers.
On March 3, 2011, before the album had been announced, the track "Midday Moon" was made available as a $1 download from Astro's bandcamp page.[1]
"Midday Moon" was the first track to be officially premiered from the album, released through bandcamp on March 3, 2011.
Chart performance
Despite not having any kind of marketing budget or ad-campaign for the album's release, it has gone on to become Astronautalis's most successful release so far, which he has partially credited to his existing fan base and their use of social networking sites and word of mouth to spread the news on his behalf.[2]
Due to the success of the album, it reached number 41 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart and number 43 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.[2][3] This is the first time any of his albums have made it onto any Billboard chart.
Elsewhere, the album debuted at number three on the CMJ Hip Hop chart.[2]
Videos
A video for "Contrails" (feat. Tegan Quin of Tegan & Sara), the next single to be released from the album, was recently posted online by Astronautalis.[4] It has subsequently been picked up for broadcast on MTV.[5]
Spring, 2012 Astronautalis released his video for "This Is Our Science" (feat. Isaiah Toothtaker and P.O.S.). [6]
