Toba Samosir Regency abbreviated as Tobasa is a regency in North Sumatra. Its seat is Balige. The regency covers an area of 2,352.35 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census it had a population of 172,933; the latest estimate (for January 2014) is 180,407. It includes the eastern shore of the vast inland Lake Toba.

Orchid paradise
Two scientists explored the Eden Park tourist forest in Sionggang village in Toba Samosir Regency for four years and have successfully identified almost 200 new species of forest orchids. The area is an orchid paradise, in which thousands of other orchid species can be found.[2]
Sigura-gura waterfall
Sigura-gura waterfall,which is the highest waterfall in Indonesia at 250 meters tall, is located 250 kilometers from Medan or a 2 to 3 hour long drive. Below the waterfall, one can do White water rafting.[3]
