Triple crown (swimming)
The Triple Crown is a recognition of the World Open Water Swimming Association to swimmers who have completed the following three tests of long-distance swimming:[1]
- The English Channel, of 33.7 km located between France and England,
- The Catalina Channel, of 32.5 km located between California and Catalina Island,
- Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, a 48.5 km circumnavigation of the island of Manhattan.
More than 130 swimmers have earned this distinction.[1]
Double Triple Crown
The double Triple Crown is the distinction granted by the World Association of Open Water to swimmers who perform the Triple Crown twice. The Mexican Antonio Argüelles was the first swimmer to win the award making his first Triple Crown in 1999 and the second in 2009.
