Tyler Green is an American art journalist. He wrote and edited the art blog Modern Art Notes (MAN) from September 2001 through May 2014. He produces and hosts the Modern Art Notes Podcast, a weekly digital audio program that features interviews with artists and art historians such as Richard Serra, Robert Irwin, Phyllida Barlow, Carl Andre, Sophie Calle, Vija Celmins, Mark Bradford, Julie Mehretu, Jo Ann Callis, and Shirin Neshat.[1] Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic Sebastian Smee called The MAN Podcast "one of the great archives of the art of our time."[2]
In May 2014, the U.S. chapter of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA-USA) awarded Green one of its two inaugural awards for art criticism. The award included a citation for the MAN Podcast. (The other inaugural award was given to New York Times critic Holland Cotter.) He is working on a biography of artist Carleton Watkins that will be published by University of California Press.[3]
From 2010-2014 Green was the columnist for the monthly art magazine, Modern Painters.[4] He is a member of the United States section of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).[5]
Career
Green has written about the National Portrait Gallery,[6] and is a frequent lecturer on art and arts journalism. His journalism includes coverage of conservation and restoration issues, and in 2012 he gave a keynote presentation at the 40th Annual Meeting of the American Institute for Conservation.[7]
Modern Art Notes
This blog covers modern and contemporary art issues and criticism, and includes a focus on the museum field. Forbes magazine once named MAN a "Best of the Web" site, and publications such as the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal, Time, the Detroit Free Press, the Boston Globe, the Denver Post, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Slate, and Art in America have all featured MAN.
