Weigeltisaurus was a genus of avicephalan reptile[1] that lived in Madagascar about 280 million years ago, during the Permian Period. It was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century.[2]
The Weigeltisaurus had a layer of skin stretched between its ribs which allowed it to glide.[3] This lizard-like reptile possibly had a very small frill at the back of its head covering most of its neck area.[4]
In the book Ecology and Behaviour of Mesozoic Reptiles it was suggested that the name Weigeltisaurus was a "junior synonym of Coelurosauravus".[1]
