Whitfield is a Canadian indie rock music group formed in 2003 in Vancouver. The band is composed of Jobie Mallett (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Sam Bastedo (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Josh McCulloch (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Jordan Irwin (guitar, backing vocals).
Originally from the UK, Mallett united with Bastedo and McCulloch in Kamloops, BC. The trio then relocated to Vancouver where they found guitarist Irwin to complete the band. Since moving to Vancouver, Whitfield has generated a considerable following in the Vancouver area and elsewhere.
A year after publishing and independently distributing their self-titled EP, the band celebrated its second commercial release, Well Behaved & Working for You, on June 9, 2006.
Whitfield has received Best of The Fest award at New Music West 2006, the Peoples Choice award at Toronto Indie Week, and Best Alternative Group at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. The band also recently supported British multi-platinum group Athlete at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. Also in early 2007, Whitfield's "Wait" won in The 6th Annual Independent Music Awards for Best Pop/Rock Song.[1]
