Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation
The WRA Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving Wisconsin's foodservice industry. In existence since 1987, it is operated by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and is one of the nation’s largest state restaurant association education foundations. It has no dues-paying members and is fully funded through donations, grants, underwriting of programs and program revenue. Its vision is to advance professionalism through education, scholarships and community involvement to ensure the future success of the foodservice industry.
Risk Management Training
- ServSafe Food Safety Training. ServSafe food safety training, certification and recertification programs meet Wisconsin’s statutory food protection manager certification requirements and reduce risks of foodborne illness.[1]
- Responsible Alcohol Service Training. ServSafe Alcohol certification outlines effective alcohol service practices and team-based prevention of difficult intoxication situations for beverage servers and front-of-house staff. The ‘’primary’’ examination satisfies Wisconsin state bartender license requirements[2]
College Prep for High School Students
The ProStart program, administered by state restaurant associations and National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, is a two-year curriculum to teach high school students the management skills needed for a career in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Students must meet academic standards, complete competencies and participate in at least 400 hours of a mentored work experience in order to receive the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement.
ProStart is a registered trademark of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.
Scholarships
The WRA Education Foundation awards over $35,000 in scholarships annually to culinary arts and hospitality management students across Wisconsin. Scholarships are awarded based on future plans in the foodservice industry, academic records, essays on industry issues and employer or instructor recommendations. Funding is provided by the Foundation’s Endowment Fund and the NRA Educational Foundation.
Professional Development
The WRA Education Foundation provides professional development and continuing education through educational seminars held at the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo. Seminar content covers current issues in foodservice, management tools, menu development, food safety, human resources, and other relevant industry topics.
