Yewale

The Yewale are a sub-clan of the Bhoite clan of the Maratha in India. They are found in northern Maharashtra, in towns such as Yeola, Niphad, and rest of Nashik District. Some Yewales belong to the Bhoite clan, others, such as in Satara district, to the Jagtap.

The Yewales of Northern Maharashtra are Bhoites who founded the town of Yeola or Yewala in Nashik. Hence, being founder of yeola town, they adopted name Yewale ( Yeole ). The Yewales are mainly present in Akole Taluka of Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Yewales worship Jejuri Khandoba as their deity.

Notable Yewale were Murarji Yewale, who fought for Peshwa in the Anglo-Maratha Wars.[1] Sardar Yashwantrao Yewale, of Baroda princely state of India.[2]
