Zambian Breweries Plc is a Zambian brewing and beverage company listed on the Lusaka Stock Exchange.[2] Its brews mainly pale lagers and a clear sorghum lager. It is also a major bottler of Coca-Cola. It has two breweries and three bottling plants.
History
- 1963 – Started as Northern Breweries Limited, a private company formed by South African Breweries (SAB-80%) and Labatt Breweries of Canada (20%). Started brewing from plants in Ndola and Lusaka.
- 1968 – Nationalised by the government[3] and split into Zambian Breweries (Lusaka) and Northern Breweries (Ndola). Renamed Zambian Breweries Limited.[4]
- 1994 – Privatisation began.
- 1997 – Listed on the Lusaka Stock Exchange[5]
- 1999 – Acquires Northern Breweries (Ndola) and the brand Rhino Lager.
- 2002 – Acquires the Coca-Cola franchise for Zambia, with bottling plants in Kitwe and Lusaka.[6]
