Ze339

Ze339™ brand herbal extracts are taken from the leaves of a unique variety (Petzell) of the Butterbur (Petasites hybridus) plant. Petzell is grown on GAP-managed farms in Europe. Ze339™ is extracted in a patented process at a pharmaceutical grade facility and is reliably PA safe.

Availability

Ze339™ brand extract is available for the treatment of allergic rhinitis in Switzerland, South Korea, and Brazil. In these countries, tablets containing Ze339™ brand herbal extracts are marketed under the brand name "Tesalin". Ze339™ is marketed in the US as "Zarbee's Naturals Seasonal Relief".

Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis

Ze339™ is indicated for seasonal allergic rhinitis (Hayfever). The ingredient has been evaluated in several placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical studies against prescription and OTC antihistamine medications. Ze339™ was shown to be as effective as the antihistamines cetirizine (Zyrtec) and fexofenadine (Allegra).[1][2] Against desloratadine(Clarinex), an improved version of loratadine(Claritin), Ze339™ had better efficacy in relieving congestion and other allergy symptoms.[3] A graph comparing the ability of Ze339™'s to treat nasal obstruction to that of desloratadine is available within the published article. In these studies, Ze339™ was shown to be less sedating than cetirizine and fexofenadine.[1][2]

Pharmacology

Ze339™ brand extract is not an antihistamine and represents a symptomatic treatment with very different properties.[3] In-vitro studies show that petasins in Ze339™ brand extract inhibit leukotriene biosynthesis and block degranulation in activated mast cells and eosinophils.[4][5]
