Ścinawka Średnia [ɕt͡ɕiˈnafka ˈɕrɛdɲa] (German: Mittelsteine) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Radków, within Kłodzko County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.[1]

It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) east of Radków, 15 kilometres (9 mi) north-west of Kłodzko, and 79 kilometres (49 mi) south-west of the regional capital Wrocław.

The village has a population of 2,400.

Prior to 1945 it was in Germany. After World War II the region was placed under Polish administration and ethnically cleansed according to the post-war Potsdam Agreement. The native German populace was expelled and replaced with Poles. The village was called Mittelsteine until 1945 when it was renamed "Skałeczno Średnie" upon the territory's accession to Poland. Subsequently, the name was changed again in 1947 to "Ścinawka Średnia".[2] The locality has historical associations with the life of the British philosopher Frederick Copleston (19071994) who spent time here in 1936 and who speaks warmly in his memoirs of the village's attractive natural surroundings suitable for unforgettable walks.[3]
