The 2009–10 season is Al-Ahly's 53rd season in the Egyptian Premier League. Al-Ahly will be looking to defend their fifth title in row.
Pre-season friendlies
Al-Ahly announced their six matches fixtures of their 2009 pre-season will be in Germany and England,[1] On 3 July 2009 Al-Ahly played their first pre-season match in Gelsenkirchen, Germany against FC Gelsenkirchen [2] On 3 July 2009 Al-Ahly played their first match of Zayton Cup against Turkish side Galatasaray, After 3 days they played German side Bayer 04 Leverkusen, The last match was on 11 July 2009 against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca,[3] After their match against Haras El Hodood in Egyptian Super Cup, Al-Ahly's 23 players were in London to play in The Wembley Cup 2009 against Celtic and Barcelona on 24 and 26 July.

As the Egyptian Premier League 2008–09 champions, Al-ahly kicked off the 2009–10 season with the traditional match in the Egyptian Super Cup against 2009 Egypt Cup champion Haras El Hodood on 21 July 2009

Egyptian Premier League
Al-Ahly's opening game of the Egyptian Premier League 2009–10 were fixture on 6 August 2009 against Ghazl El-Mehalla, Al-Ahly's coach Hossam El-Badry who took over at the club following the departure of Portuguese Manuel José at the end of last season and employed an unfamiliar 4-4-2 formation. Despite the bad opening of the season in the super cup defeat against Haras El Hodood Al-Ahly beat Ghazl El-Mehalla 2-0, Ahmed Hassan open scoring after 40' minutes and Francis Doe makes it two in the 66' minutes on his Egyptian Premier League debut,[4] This was followed up by a narrow 2–1 win over Ittihad El-Shorta in an Un-broadcasting match due to Broadcasting problems on 19 August. Former Ahly player Ahmed Galal scores the first goal of the game after 31' minutes, 4 minutes later Ahly's player Ahmed Hassan scores the equalizer, the second-half substitute Hussein Yasser scored Al-Ahly's second goal in the 80' minutes to secure ahly's second win of the season.[5]
On 23 August Al-Ahly plays their third match of the season against Haras El Hodood in a 1-1 darw, Haras El Hodood player Ahmed Salama scores the opener in the 69' minutes and Ahmed Hassan scores the equalizer in the 78' minutes of the game.[6]
