The 29th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards Night was held in 1981 in the Philippines . This is for the Outstanding Achievements of the different films for the year 1980.

The 29th FAMAS Award for Best Picture was given to the movie called "Aguila" and contrary to what is being whispered about by birdwatchers, it is not about an eagle that preys on parish priests. It took 12 stars, 60 production staff and crewmen, 7,000 extras, 120 different locations, and 100 days to film 204 pages of script about the life of Daniel Aguila which traverses the 1890s to the 1970s. The movie, "Aguila" chronicles the passionate saga of the life and times of the Aguila family headed by the elderly Daniel Aguila (Fernando Poe, Jr.). Spanning a period of 80 years, beginning with the 1896 Philippine Revolution up to the 1970s, Aguila's family is unraveled through flashbacks and memories.[1][2]
