Albert E. Johnson was an English professional rugby league footballer from the 1930s to 1950s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and England, and at club level for Warrington, as a wing, i.e. number 2 or 5. He also appeared for Wigan as a wartime guest player.[1]
Playing career
Warrington
Albert Johnson played Left-Wing, i.e. number 5, and scored a try in Warrington's 8-14 defeat by Wigan in the 1948 Lancashire Cup final during the 1948–49 season at Station Road, Swinton on Saturday 13 November 1948,[2] and played Left-Wing in the 5-28 defeat by Wigan in the 1950 Lancashire Cup final during the 1950–51 season at Station Road, Swinton on Saturday 4 November 1950.[3] He played 198 games for the club,[4] and is a Warrington Wolves Hall of Fame inductee.[5]
International honours
Johnson won caps for England while at Warrington in 1944 against Wales, in 1945 against Wales (2 matches), in 1946 against France (2 matches), and Wales (2 matches), in 1947 against France (2 matches), and Wales,[6] and won caps for Great Britain while at Warrington in 1946 against Australia (2 matches), and New Zealand, and in 1947 against New Zealand (3 matches).[7]
