D. K. Aruna

Dharmavaram Kottam Aruna is an Indian politician and a legislator. She represented Gadwal constituency in Telangana.[1] She was Minister for Information and Public Relations MLA At Gadwal.[2][3]

Aruna grew up in an inspiring environment of commitment to people and commitment for Indian National Congress as the core philosophy of life. She studied science up to Intermediate and as time would conspire, at the age of 16, she got married into an equally illustrious family of freedom fighters and intense Congress workers.

Her father-in-law, Late Sri D.K. Satya Reddy, her husband Sri. D.K. BharathaSimha Reddy, her brother-in-law Sri. D.K. Samara Simha Reddy have all served the people in various capacities and rendered yeoman services to their ever-trusting people. Her father Late Sri. ChittemNarsi Reddy and brothers Late Sri ChittemVenkateswar Reddy and Chittem Ram Mohan Reddy are all accomplished Congress workers and successful legislators who always stood by the highest principles of public life.

Her family has its share of sacrifices. Both her father and brother Venkateswar Reddy were assassinated by Maoists on the Independence Day in 2005 while attending the celebrations at Narayanpet.

It was never a routine life for the young Aruna gaaru as she got involved in public life very early by attending to “grievance redressal” sessions at her in laws place. It is this back ground that horned the skills and temperament of Aruna into a rational thinker with commitment to people and leadership qualities that keep her in good stead even after a long onward journey from these strong beginnings.

Despite her outstanding background, it was baptism by fire for her into electoral politics. She lost her first few elections by very narrow margins against stalwarts. These early losses only strengthened her resolve as she rededicated herself for the people’ cause and established a direct connect with people and party cadre. As a leader, while in the opposition, she participated in many an agitation like the Historic Electricity agitation, led a padayathra from Gadwal to the State capital to highlight the irrigation water problems of the farmers in Mahaboobnagar District and went on an indefinite hunger strike for irrigation water to the dry lands of Telangana.

Conversely as a minister now, her focus has shifted to establishing complete reach of government developmental programmes and welfare schemes to the needy and the downtrodden.

Great family background, exceptional commitment to the party for generations, unstinted loyalty to the leadership especially to the high command, being one of the moderate voices in the deep schism the state is going through. She is looking for an appropriate opportunity to contribute her might to serve the people who are in need.

In her own words “I am a sophisticated women who makes everyone's lives around me very bright and making the world a better place to live. For me, true beauty lies in helping people of all walks of life”

Her ambition for empowerment, uplifting of the downtrodden, bringing about equivalent justice to one and all is a passion in her life.

Awards

She was a recipient of “The Great Daughter of the Soil” Award from the All India Conference of Intellectuals, Chapter-VII and also awarded with the “Pride of India Leadership” Instituted by the NRI Institute from Sir Anerood Juganauth, President of Mauritius on 15 April, 2011.
