Bakırköy railway station is a main station on the İstanbul-Halkalı Line. The station is south of Bakırköy's city center towards the Marmara Sea. Bakırköy is 12.6 km (7.8 mi) west of Sirkeci Terminal and average travel time to Sirkeci is 30 minutes. The station was built in 1872 as part of the Rumelia Railway in 1872. It was electrified and rebuilt in 1955. Bakırköy is primarily a commuter rail station but is also serviced by the westbound İstanbul-Kapıkule Regional and the İstanbul-Çerkezköy Regional.
