Big Nate Goes for Broke is a New York Times Bestselling realistic fiction novel by American cartoonist Lincoln Peirce, based on the Big Nate comic strip.[1] It is the fourth book in the Big Nate series, followed by Big Nate Flips Out, released on March 20, 2012. It is aimed at children aged 8 to 12. It was published by HarperCollins Publishers

Plot

Nate is enraged to find out Jefferson is better than them. Later in the book, he goes to a dance. Trouble starts when the fire alarm goes off. The school is closed and the kids from P.S. 38 are sent to Jefferson. Nate breaks his wrist in the process of helping his friend Chad. Nate finds he can't draw because of his broken wrist. Then later a girl from Jefferson comes and puts a bad message on Nate's cast. The basketball game comes, and the Bobcats lose. Jefferson had 129 points. Then the kids at P.S. 38 vow to beat Jefferson. They decide to have a snow sculpture contest called a "snowdown". The Bobcats win because they were more creative, as Jefferson used an old cavalier and packed snow around it. Then Nate's school wins against Jefferson again when their story is published in a comic contest. Nate then says that the breaking of his wrist was lucky.
