Rhiannon Salt, played by Rebecca Craven, made her first appearance in the first episode of Series 8, airing on 23 August 2012. From her first appearance, she made herself present as the new "bad girl" of Waterloo Road, specifically for bullying Jodie "Scout" Allen. Then, in the next episode, Rhiannon shared a catfight with Lula Tsibi while they are both in the cooler. Lula triumphs and Rhiannon loses the fight. Rhiannon's bullying eventually got too much for Scout, and they had a fight in the middle of the corridor, with Audrey McFall having to split the pair up. Rhiannon later revealed that she has a brother named Lee, who she doesn't see as she was put into care. Audrey then encourages Rhiannon to go on a power-walking session with the other teachers and Scout on lunchtime, and Scout is stunned when she finds blood on Rhiannon's t-shirt. When the girls get back to the changing rooms, Rhiannon reveals that she self-harms herself, expressing how good it feels when she cuts herself. She threatens to kill Scout if she tells anybody about it, and she later stops hurting herself. The two enemies make peace after this, and Rhiannon stops bullying Scout.
Rhiannon later made friends with Dynasty Barry, and she helps her after she is raped by her boyfriend, Steve-O Malone. In the final episode of Series 8, her old friend Kyle Stack arrived at Waterloo Road. Kyle had been serving time in prison for shooting fellow pupil Josh Stevenson, English teacher Tom Clarkson's son. That night, when there is a charity event on at the school, Kyle contemplates suicide by jumping off the roof of the school. Tom manages to get him down, but he ends up falling instead. Tom subsequently dies from his injuries. Rhiannon is devastated, and Kyle leaves straight after.
In Series 9, Rhiannon begins dating newcomer Darren Hughes. Soon, he asks Rhiannon for saucy photographs. Rhiannon confidently take photos of herself exposing her cleavage on her mobile phone, and sends them to Darren, but the photographs soon go viral. Rhiannon is utterly humiliated and ashamed, and is comforted by Audrey. She subsequently ends her relationship with Darren over the situation. This short storyline highlighted the issues of sexting and cyber-bullying.

Series 8
Kevin Skelton arrives at Waterloo Road in Series 8 Episode 8, he immediately gets off to a bad start when Michael Byrne gets angry when Kevin tries to make a joke out of the schools arsonist. Later that day he meets Daniel Chalk at the council where it is revealed he is in foster care, he lied to his classmates that he lives with his parents so they don't know. In episode 9 Kevin sets fire to Audrey McFall's grandfather's war diary to impress Connor Mulgrew. This backfires when Michael accuses Kevin who denies it and then admits to Chalky it was him, Audrey decides Kevin deserves another chance and he is not excluded. In episode 10 Kevin asks Daniel if he would consider fostering him, he agrees.
Kevin moves in with Chalky in episode 12, he tells Chalky he doesn’t want anyone to know, but within five minutes the whole school knows. In the later episodes Kevin is very distant from Chalky and constantly challenges him, refusing to turn up for lessons and making remarks about Chalky's weight. In episode 15, when Chalky and Kevin are awaiting a visit from the social worker, Kevin steals Chalky's laptop to build a robot, when Chalky acts suspicious Kevin begins to think there is something dodgy on it. He finds a change of name form and pictures of young people. Kevin accuses Chalky of being a pervert and tells him he's leaving, after speaking to Tom Clarkson it is revealed Chalky's real name is Gareth Dynsdale. Kevin finds letters from a lawyer on Chalky's computer, he goes to see this lawyer who tells him that Chalky was abused in a care home along with other residents. Realising his mistake, Kevin builds the robot for Austin Healey's visit and saves Chalky's job. Kevin agrees to move back with Chalky and the pair bond over the situation once Kevin persuades Chalky to give evidence against the Care Worker who abused him; Kevin also decides to change his name to 'Chalk'
In episode 19, Kevin and Chalky invent a mobile phone game 'Chalk and Cheese' which has the whole school hooked. Lorraine Donnegan immediately takes to it and asks Kevin to look over a contract to help her sell it. When it comes to the actual pitch (on the same day that Kevin changes his name from 'Skelton' to 'Chalk') it turns out Lorraine does not want Chalky to be part of the process, only Kevin. Chalky agrees but Kevin refuses, not without Chalky. Kevin and Chalky argue about this until Kevin persuades Chalky and calls him his dad. Kevin and Chalky both meet Julian Styles, Lorraine's partner on cyber-entertainment and Chalky is offered a job at his head office in London, Kevin accepts on Chalky's behalf. He later admits that he would have rather stayed at Waterloo Road and Chalky decides not to take the job. Kevin then attends Connor and Imogens wedding as Connor's best man and afterwards tells Chalky to take the job and leave, saying he could stay in the school house until he is 18.
The Summer Term sees Kevin living in the school house and pursuing a spark between himself and Dynasty Barry, in episode 21 Christine describes them as 'an old married couple', in episode Dynasty is annoyed when Connor and Imogen tell her that Kevin goes tongue-tied when any fit girls appear, commenting that he never shuts up around her. In episode 23, Dynasty takes on Kevin in the Chess Tournament, however her ex-boyfriend Stevo Malone turns up and she prepares to leave to Liverpool. After learning he stole school computers, Dynasty leaves Stevo before playing the sexiest game of chess with Kevin. At the end of the episode the two kiss and afterwards Stevo threatens Kevin, warning him to stay away. During episode 24, Kevin hides away from Stevo, and tells Barry that he and Stevo have broken up, leaving Dynasty and Kevin to meet in secret at Chalkys flat where they sleep together. The next morning Stevo breaks into their flat, Dynasty goes to school while Kevin stays at the flat to get the locks changed. After Barry tells Dynasty that Stevo plans to put Kevin n hospital, Dynasty dumps Kevin leaving them both heartbroken, later that day Stevo rapes Dynasty. In Episode 26, Dynasty reluctantly told Kevin what Stevo did, not admitting it as rape. Kevin then goes on a warpath dragging Connor with him to Stevo, he plans to shoot him at the docks using a gun that Barry Barry gets for him. When Kevin arrives at the docks, the gun is not there Barry betrayed Kevin and Connor to Stevo who attempts to shoot Kevin however the gun is not loaded, Barry set Stevo up after he raped Dynasty. Stevo, Kevin and Connor are arrested, Kevin and Dynasty later get back together and Dynasty agrees to move in with Kevin. But, Barry refuses to let his sister live with Kevin and tries to persuade him that Dynasty needs to stay in the family home, this turns into Barry punching the lights out of Kevin until Dynasty, Connor and Imogen come to his aid.
In the next episode, Carol Barry tries to split Dynasty and Kevin up by requesting that they are put into different classes, Michael tells her that their relationship is nothing to do with the school. Carol eventually gets herself and Dynasty on the Julian Noble Show, with the headline "my daughter's boyfriend has poisoned her mind against me". Here, Kevin comes face to face with his mother, Daisy, for the first time in seven years, it is revealed Kevin was put into care when he was ten years old. His dad walked out on him when he was six and his step dad threw him out of the house when he was ten. Daisy blamed Kevin for her miscarriage, but Kevin protests that he didn't know she was pregnant and he didn't even have a bead. Christine Mulgrew (the newly appointed head) stops the show and Carol slaps Daisy uttering "some mothers don't deserve to have kids" Carol and Barry finally accept Dynasty's new boyfriend and Kevin becomes one of the Barrys. He co-hosts the End of Term Charity Auction with Connor Mulgrew, offering six hours of help with maths homework, and winning the auction of Dynasty Barry's one-hour massage with an aromatherapy oil. Kevin is present when Tom Clarkson falls off the roof and tragically dies.
Series 9

In episode 3, Kevin kisses Princess Windsor, George's wife, and after a confrontation with George about his missing pills Kevin falls over in the hall and insinuates that George pushed him. Kevin later acknowledges that Mr Windsor did not push him and apologises. In episode 4, Princess prepares to leave George however George locks her bag in his cupboard and cuts up her credit cards. Kevin breaks into George's cupboard and steals the bag back for Princess and asks to leave with her, they agree to meet at the train station after school. After taking Kevin's money, Princess leaves alone in a taxi promising she will repay him, Kevin realises he doesn't love Dynasty anymore and breaks up with her. Later in the series, fed up with his single life, Kevin starts Operation Dynasty in Living History Week, where he sets up a romantic picnic in the forest to woo Dynasty back, Dynasty agrees to give their relationship one more go and they kiss. In the spring term, Dynasty starts a feud with Gabriella Wark which concerns Kevin over Dynasty's wellbeing. He pleads with her to tell him what's wrong in episode 12, finding out she got rejected from a university and lecturing Dynasty when she sets a lynch mob after Gabriella. In episode 16, Kevin prepares to go to Edinburgh for his university interview, Daniel Chalk returns to take him although; Kevin decides he wants to go by himself. After a row with Dynasty, Kevin has a stroke, caused by a blood clot in the brain. It is revealed that Kevin isn't going to live unless he has a risky operation. Maggie has to make the choice on the spot, which causes tremors between her and Chalky. Nonetheless Kevin pulls through and gains consciousness, much to the relief of Dynasty, Carol, Maggie, Chalky and the whole school. Even so, Kevin loses the ability of speech and movement, however he slowly progresses. In episode 19, Dynasty persuades him to visit the school in his wheelchair, but Kevin is angered when Gabriella embarrasses him, revealing to everyone that Kevin can't go to the toilet. He is annoyed in episode 20, when Connor returns revealing he's moving back to Greenock to look after his mother.
Series 10
Series 10 is a quieter one for Kevin, he returns on the first day back (on crutches) and is greeted by Vaughan Fitzgerald, his new Head Teacher and Rhiannon Salt. Later in the canteen, Kevin drops his lunch; he refuses help from both another pupil and Hector Reid, until Mr Reid finally helps him, telling Kevin he won't be able to do some things yet. His long-term Dynasty Barry leaves for Police College in episode 2. Kevin is not seen again until Episode 5, when he gets Lenny Brown's predicted grades by hacking the school network. Leo Fitzgerald realises what Kevin did and persuades him to show him. In episode 6, Kevin sets himself a target of hacking multinational company Wire Data. He gets in, after which Leo tests himself to hack the system, however he does not cover his tracks and the hack is investigated by the police. When the schools computers are confiscated the next day, Kevin is bitter that no one thinks he is capable of the hack and falls out with Leo, calling his dad prejudice. When Leo admits to the hack, Kevin tells the owner of Wire Data it was him and proves it. The owner decides to prosecute, to Vaughan and Kevin's dismay. However Kevin had already set an artificial worm on the system as an insurance if he was to admit to the hack, he eventually persuades the owner not to prosecute, and signs a contract to confirm this on the agreement that Kevin helps wire data to find the faults within their firewall, possibly giving Kevin a career starter. In episode 10, Kevin is shocked to win the award for Most Inspiring Pupil, however he sits alone for the most of the school dance revealing to Maggie Budgen that Dynasty would have really liked it Maggie persuades him to dance with Dynasty's sister Kacey.
During the spring term, Kevin is seen to take his PGD classes at Havelock High. After learning that Waterloo Road will be getting a new PGD Teacher, Kevin begs Vaughan to transfer him to Havelock completely, Vaughan refuses. Later on, Kevin arranges to have a fight with Scott, however this does not happen instead they have a bike chase in which Kevin topples over his bike and is knocked out. He later wakes up and is rushed to A & E. Vaughan is later persuaded by his ex-wife Olga Fitzgerald to let Kevin transfer, and he leaves Waterloo Road.
Kevin is a very private person, only confiding in Chalky or Maggie his 'parents', he has always felt an outside and cares deeply about what people think of him. Throughout his time on Waterloo Road, Kevin's key theme is growing up. In Series 8 he tries to grow up and become a man to protect Dynasty and stand up to Stevo Malone, in Series 9 Kevin feels grown up and kisses Princess because he thinks this is the adult way to settle things, however by Series 10 Kevin has grown up, but not the way he wanted to, he has had to grow up to come to terms with his stroke, something that changed him completely.

Dynasty Barry, played by Abby Mavers, was introduced as part of a new family to hit Waterloo Road. The family consisted of a fierce matriarch, Carol, a sleazy criminal Barry, who has replaced his father as he is in prison, glamorous yet intelligent Dynasty, and football-addicted tomboy, Kacey. In Dynasty's first storyline, Carol is forcing her to become a pole dancer. Dynasty shocks her classmates with the announcement that she is having a boob job, although Carol is not going to be paying for her surgery. As the episode progresses, Dynasty realizes that pole dancing is not the career path she wants to go down, which infuriates Carol.
Dynasty later becomes friends with Imogen Stewart, and this lasts throughout the series. She became unimpressed when Imogen's husband, Connor Mulgrew, admits to starting the fire that left Imogen's face riddled with scars. As a result of finding this out, Dynasty plots with sister Kacey and classmate Lula Tsibi to get revenge on arsonist Connor. They gang up on him after school, but Imogen manages to stop them from hurting him. Dynasty is supportive when she discovers that Kacey wants to become a boy, while Barry and Carol are less supportive.
Dynasty is delighted in the third part of Series 8, when her boyfriend, Steve-O Malone is released from prison. The family are fearful of Steve-O, particularly Barry and Kacey, whom he later attacks. However, Dynasty notices a spark between her and intelligent student Kevin Chalk, but Barry punches Kevin, worrying about how Steve-O will react if he finds out. He eventually does, and like Barry, beats Kevin up. Steve-O keeps a worrying presence in Greenock, and Dynasty later leaves him for Kevin. The couple are later horrified when Steve-O breaks into their flat and threatens them both. Dynasty then dumps Kevin so that Steve-O won't hurt him. Dynasty takes Steve-O back to Kevin's flat because Steve-O won't leave her alone. Steve-O then rapes Dynasty. Dynasty is distraught and days later after telling Kevin confides in Imogen, who tells English teacher Christine Mulgrew. After being raped herself a long time ago, Christine understands how Dynasty is feeling. Kevin is devastated when he finds out what Steve-O has done to his ex-girlfriend, and he concocts a plan with Connor and Barry to get revenge on him. Kevin, Steve-O and Connor all arrange to meet up at an abandoned warehouse where they are armed with a gun. Dynasty called the police, and before Kevin and Connor arrive, Barry betrayes Kevin and Connor but then they release he actually betrayed Steve-O for raping his sister. Steve-O is later arrested and charged with rape, and Dynasty and Kevin become a proper couple.
Trouble isn't over for Dynasty and Kevin yet, though. Carol and Barry are very unaccepting of their relationship, and they call to go on a Jeremy Kyle Show-like television programme, entitled Noble Thoughts. Kevin is stunned to see his mother, Daisy, at the show, and the audience are horrified when they learn that Daisy threw Kevin out of the house when he was just 10 years old. Once the show is over Carol is furious and slaps Daisy for her previous actions. Realising the difficult past that Kevin has had to put up with, Carol, Barry and Kacey welcome Kevin into the Barry clan.
In Series 9, deciding she does not want to follow her family's criminal history, Dynasty applies for a job with the police, but is worried that her father and brother's brushes with the law will jeopardise this. Dynasty is later accepted for the job, much to her and Kevin's delight.

Steve-O then runs off, leaving Connor and Imogen devastated. He then notices chemistry between Dynasty and Kevin Chalk, and beats him up, warning him that he will put him in hospital if he touches Dynasty. Steve-O and Dynasty then have several arguments, and the relationship eventually ends, and she begins dating Kevin. While Steve-O and Barry are talking, he is stunned to see Dynasty's younger sister Kacey arrive, and teases her about how much she looks like a boy. He then forcefully pulls Kacey's trousers down and Kacey believes that Steve-O is going to rape her, as a helpless Barry looks on. Steve-O later hears that Dynasty and Kevin are now in a relationship, and breaks into their flat and threatens them both. While Kevin goes out, Steve-O loses his temper with Dynasty and rapes her. This leaves her devastated, and Kevin is furious to find out that Steve-O has raped his girlfriend. Kevin then concocts a plan with Connor and Barry on how to get revenge of Steve-O for sexually assaulting Dynasty. Kevin arranges for Steve-O to meet him and Connor at an abandoned warehouse, where they are armed with a gun. Steve-O arrives, and Barry emerges from the darkness, and expresses his hatred towards Steve-O for raping his sister. The police then arrive, and Steve-O is arrested and charged with rape, much to Kevin and Dynasty's delight.
