Elizabeth Yakel is a Professor and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan School of Information where she teaches in the areas of digital archives and digital preservation. Her research interests include data reuse, teaching with primary sources, and the development of standardized metrics to enhance repository processes and the user experience.[1]

Her work on the Polar Bear Expedition Digital Collections used Web 2.0 technologies to enhance how finding aids could be repurposed in a digital environment. The article, "Interaction in Virtual Archives: the Polar Bear Expedition Digital Collections Next Generation Finding Aid"[2] that resulted in this research won the Society of American Archivists, Fellows' Ernst Posner Award for 2008 American Archivist best paper, with Magia Krause.[3]

Education

She graduated with an A.B., from Brown University, in 1980; with an A.M.L.S., from the University of Michigan, in 1982; and with a Ph.D., from the University of Michigan, in 1997.[4]
