Gail Miller (murder victim)

Gail Miller (c. 1948 – January 31, 1969) was a Canadian nursing assistant, who was raped and murdered on January 31, 1969 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, by Larry Fisher. Her partially nude body was found that morning in an alley snowbank, with her throat slashed and stabbed fourteen times.

David Milgaard had been wrongfully convicted of the crime and served 23 years in prison before he was exonerated by DNA evidence analyzed in the United Kingdom.

The Milgaard case in popular culture

The David Milgaard case has been the subject of two movies: the 1992 documentary The David Milgaard Story, directed by Vic Sarin, and the 1999 docudrama Hard Time: The David Milgaard Story, directed by Stephen Williams and starring Ian Tracey.

The song "Wheat Kings" by The Tragically Hip (from their 1992 album Fully Completely) contains references to the story of Milgaard. Canadian artist David Collier described the Milgaard case in comics form in his 2000 book Surviving Saskatoon.
