Galerie Perrotin
Galerie Perrotin is a contemporary art gallery founded by Emmanuel Perrotin in 1990. In France, the gallery currently occupies two floors in Paris' Marais district, with an adjoining exhibition space across the road.[1] In May 2012, the gallery opened a space in Hong Kong at 50 Connaught Road Central designed by architect Andre Fu.[2]
Galerie Perrotin began representing two of its most well-known artists, Maurizio Cattelan and Takashi Murakami, very early on in their careers.[3] In 1993, Perrotin brought the works of Maurizio Cattelan - still relatively unknown at that time - to the Yokohoma contemporary art fair, NiCAF. In 1994, Perrotin showed Takashi Murakami's work at the Gramercy International Art Fair in New York City, becoming the first person to exhibit Murakami's work outside Japan.[4] It would be a decade later before both artists achieved commercial success. Today, Perrotin continues to work with new, young artists like KAWS and JR.[5]
Perrotin also represented many French artists like Sophie Calle, Tatiana Trouve, Xavier Veilhan, Jean-Michel Othoniel and Bernard Frize.[4] In addition, the gallery was one of the first to tap into the Asian markets, and now counts Aya Takano, Mr. and Bharti Kher among its artists.[1]
At the same time, the Gallery also collaborated with musicians such as Feist, Massive Attack, N.E.R.D., Pharrell Williams, and many others.[6]
