Gastón Ricardo Díaz (born 13 March 1988) is an Argentine football right back or right winger who plays for Racing Club in the Argentine Primera División.

Club career

Díaz made his debut for Vélez Sársfield on February 9, 2008. He featured rarely during the 2008–09 season, being a substitute for Fabián Cubero in the position of right back. However, he finished the second half of the season (2009 Clausura) as a starter as the team's right winger, playing even in the final game against Huracán, when Vélez obtained the national championship. Díaz played a total of 9 games during the team's championship winning campaign.[1] The night subsequent to the championship final, Díaz had a car accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.[2]

Díaz featured more regularly during the 2009–10 Argentine Primera División season and the 2010 Copa Libertadores. He usually played as right back, with Fabián Cubero starting on the right wing.

In 2014 record for The Academy. In the 1st date of First Division Championship 2014 (Argentina) against Defense and Justice assists 3 times in the game (2 to Gabriel Hauche and 1 to mythical Diego Milito), thus becoming the man of the match. Then, for the 2nd time attending Luciano Lollo (with less skillful leg, left foot) in the victory of Racing 2-0 on San Lorenzo de Almagro. At the time 9 Racing Club faced Club Atlético Belgrano and Diaz scored his 5th attendance in the tournament after sending a precise head to pitch scorer Gustavo Bou. Against Estudiantes, the date 11 assists back to Diego Milito where his team won 4-0 and was its assistance number 6 in the championship. Against Rosario Central marks his first goal in the club of Avellaneda in victory and win 3-0 by the date 18 (your goal should be invalidated because it was in offside ). On the date 19 against Godoy Cruz assists teammate Ricardo Centurion to become the goal that would give The Academy title after 13 years. In that tournament he played in all 19 games, had a goal and 7 assists, making him the maximum asistidor in the championship. Undoubtedly, it was vital to Racing Club get their 17th national title.

In 2015 he attends Gustavo Bou to put the 3-1 in the 4-1 victory of his team against Boca Juniors in the Summer Tournament.

International career

Díaz was on the preliminary squad for the 2008 Summer Olympics.[3] However, he was not part of the final selection.

In January 2010, he was called by Argentina's coach Diego Maradona for an Argentine league-based squad to play a friendly match against Costa Rica. Díaz was an unused substitute during the game. In November of that year, he was called by Sergio Batista, Maradona's replacement as Argentina's head coach, for another squad of local league players to train twice weekly with the national representative.[4] He debuted with the national team entering the field in a 4–1 victory over Venezuela, on March 16, 2011.[5]
