Glyn Kerslake

Glyn Kerslake is a British actor who was born in 1967 in Devon.^[1] He trained as an actor at Arts Educational Schools, London.^[2] Glyn is also an accomplished composer and has written a children's musical called Haunted.

Career

Glyn made his West End debut in the company of Les Misérables at the Palace Theatre in 1988. He then joined Miss Saigon, the original cast, at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1989. He later became Alternate Chris. Following this he played the leading role of Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard at the Adelphi Theatre, which he cites as his favourite role.^[3]

Glyn was well known for appearing in two West End shows at once. He spent a year in Les Misérables playing the role of Enjolras and at the same time was performing the role of Arnaud du Thil at certain performances of Martin Guerre just down the road at the Prince Edward Theatre.^[4]

Glyn became The Phantom in Phantom of the Opera in 1998^[5] for which he received great reviews.^[6] The production plays at Her Majesty's Theatre.^[7]

In 2010 he took on the famous role of John Wilkes Booth in Assassins^[8] at the Union Theatre, London which won the Off-West End Award for Best Production in 2011^[9]

Glyn appeared in A Sentimental Journey at Wilton's Music Hall in 2010.^[10]

In 2012 he appeared in the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Merrily We Roll Along^[11] by Stephen Sondheim which then transferred to the Harold Pinter Theatre in 2013. It was released in cinemas worldwide by Digital Theatre.^[12]

Autumn 2013 saw Glyn tour with The Three Phantoms which also featured Stephen John Davis and Matthew Camelle.^[13]

In November 2013 he began rehearsals for London Calling at Salisbury Playhouse.^[14] Previous productions at Salisbury Playhouse include Let's Misbehave, The Game of Love and Chance and With a Song in My Heart.

Concert Work

In 1989 Glyn appeared in Celebrating Sondheim at the Royal Festival Hall which was released on BBC Music^[15] In 2010 he appeared at Waterloo East Theatre in concert with Annalene Beechey.^[16] He appeared in A Cavalcade of Coward at the Piccadilly Theatre and Merrily We Roll Along at the Shaftesbury Theatre.^[17] Glyn appeared in concert with Shona Lindsay at Norden Farm, Maidenhead in Oct 2012 presented by James Church.^[18]

Recordings

Glyn has appeared on many cast recordings and albums including A Night at the Musicals with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the original cast album of Miss Saigon, the Les Misérables 10th Anniversary Concert, the cast recording of Scrooge with Tommy Steele in the title role and selected tracks on Best of Broadway^[19] Glyn has also recorded an album called Don't Judge an album by its Cover.^[20] He accompanied Linzi Hateley on her album For The First Time^[21] and wrote songs for her album Sooner or Later.

Radio Work

Glyn appears regularly on Friday Night is Music Night and has also featured on Radio Rhapsody on BBC Radio 3, Songs from the Shows, An Evening With Alan J Lerner for BBC Radio 2, Mike Batt’s Masterclass on Classic FM (UK) and Ned Sherrin’s Loose Ends for BBC Radio 4.

Teaching

Glyn has worked at Clifton College as a musical theatre coach.^[22]
