Kim Tae-yeon (better known by her mononym Taeyeon) is a South Korean singer. Her discography consists of two extended plays, twelve singles, three promotional singles, and fifteen soundtrack songs. She debuted as a member of South Korean girl group Girls' Generation in August 2007 and subsequently became a part of its subgroup Girls' Generation-TTS in May 2012 as well as S.M. Entertainment's group SM the Ballad in February 2014. Taeyeon has achieved mainstream popularity in South Korea upon recording songs for soundtracks for various television drama series and films, notably "I Love You" (Athena: Goddess of War), "Missing You like Crazy" (The King 2 Hearts), "Closer" (To the Beautiful You), and "And One" (That Winter, the Wind Blows), all of which managed to enter the top ten of South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart.

Her career as a solo artist began in October 2015 with the release of her debut extended play I. The EP was a commercial success in South Korea, where it peaked at number two on the Gaon Album Chart and has since sold over 130,000 physical copies. The title track of the same title peaked atop the Gaon Digital Chart and has sold over one million digital copies. In February 2016, Taeyeon released the single "Rain" as the opening single for S.M. Entertainment's digital music project SM Station, which also peaked atop the Gaon Digital Chart and additionally charted at number three on Billboard's World Digital Songs. Her second extended play Why was released in June 2016 and produced two singles: "Starlight" and "Why".
