List of Billboard number-one alternative singles of the 2010s
Alternative Songs is a record chart that ranks the most-played songs on American modern rock radio stations. Published by the music industry magazine Billboard and introduced in September 1988,[1] the chart is based on electronically monitored airplay data compiled by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems from approximately 80 national rock radio stations.[2] Songs are ranked by a calculation of its total number of radio spins per week and its "audience impression", which is based upon exact times of airplay and each station's Arbitron listener data.[2] The first number-one single of the 2010s on the Alternative Songs chart was "Uprising" by English rock band Muse, which spent 15 weeks at the top spot from October 2009 to January 2010.[3] Two years later, the band's single "Madness" topped the chart for 19 non-consecutive weeks, breaking the record for the most weeks spent at number one by a single in the chart's history.[4]
76 singles have topped the Alternative Songs chart during the 2010s.[3] Of these, American rock band Cage the Elephant has attained seven, the most number-one singles on the chart by any artist within the decade.[3] The current number-one single, as of the chart issue dated December 10, 2016, is "All We Ever Knew" by The Head and the Heart.
