Pečovje (pronounced [pɛˈtʃoːu̯jɛ]) is a settlement in the Municipality of Štore in eastern Slovenia. It lies in the hills just south of Štore itself above the left bank of the Voglajna River. The area was traditionally part of the Styria region. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Savinja Statistical Region.[2]
Mass grave
Pečovje is the site of a mass grave from the period immediately after the Second World War. It is part of the 25 mass graves in the Celje area. The Pečovnik Mass Grave (Slovene: Grobišče Pečovnik) is located near the house at Zvodno no. 72 in a trench that was later filled and then covered with timber, concrete, and soil, or in a shaft about 30 m southwest of this trench. The shaft has a 35% grade and has also been backfilled and leveled with the terrain. The grave contains the remains of 5,000 to 10,000 victims that were murdered in May and June 1945.[3]
