Phan Văn Khải ( listen; born December 25, 1933) was Prime Minister of Vietnam from 1997 to 2006.
Khai was born in Tan Thong Hoi Commune, Củ Chi District, Saigon. He joined the revolution in 1947 and moved to Hanoi in 1954.
He was elected as Prime Minister on September 24, 1997, and was re-elected in August 2002. In 2005, he became the first Prime Minister of Vietnam to visit United States, meeting with President George W. Bush. On June 24, 2006, he announced his resignation, along with President Trần Đức Lương.
