Raoul is a census-designated place (CDP) in Habersham County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,816.
Geography
Raoul is located at 34°26′59″N 83°36′12″W / 34.44972°N 83.60333°W (34.449668, -83.603337).[3]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.1 km²), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,816 people, 245 households, and 180 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 932.6 people per square mile (359.6/km²). There were 284 housing units at an average density of 145.8/sq mi (56.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 50.55% White, 45.93% African American, 0.50% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 1.10% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.30% of the population.
There were 245 households out of which 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.4% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% were non-families. 23.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 14.4% under the age of 18, 37.3% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 11.4% from 45 to 64, and 4.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 24 years. For every 100 females there were 480.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 542.1 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $35,192, and the median income for a family was $36,538. Males had a median income of $25,313 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $6,871. About 14.4% of families and 18.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.3% of those under age 18 and 15.8% of those age 65 or over.
