Reformed Presbyterian Church of Malawi
The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Malawi was a mission work of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland, and was founded in 1985. There are more than 150 congregetions and 17,000 - 20,000 members mainly in rural areas of central and southern Malawi. Since 2006 the Restored Reformed Church supports this denomination after the Scottish Free Presbyterian Church' s missionaries left.[1]
The congregations are small, some formed after evangelistic meetings. Rev. RJ. Oomen a Restored Reformed Missionary provides theological training to students and elders. In 2005 when the first Synod meeting was held the church adopted the Nicene Creed, Apostles Creed, Westminster Confession of Faith, Westminster Larger Catechism and Westminster Shorter Catechism and the Heidelberg Catechism, and the church government was constructed along Presbyterian lines. A year later it established its own church order.[2]
