Plot
A woman goes to war against the police in her Missouri town after her daughter is murdered.

Production
In a September 2015 interview with The Guardian to promote his play Hangmen, Martin McDonagh expressed his intention to write and direct a new film called Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which would star Frances McDormand as a mother who goes to war against the police in her town after the murder of her daughter.[1] On February 9, 2016, it was reported that Three Billboards would begin filming in the spring of 2016, co-financed by Film4 and Fox Searchlight Pictures.[2] On March 9, 2016, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell joined the cast.[3] On March 15, 2016, Abbie Cornish and Caleb Landry Jones joined the cast as Anne, the wife of Harrelson's character Sheriff Bill Willoughby, and Red, an advertising salesman who allows Mildred Hayes (McDormand) to rent three billboards, respectively.[4] On April 7, 2016, Peter Dinklage, John Hawkes, and Lucas Hedges joined the cast.[5] On June 13, 2016, it was reported that Kathryn Newton had joined the cast as Angela, Mildred's daughter.[6]
On May 3, 2016, it was reported that Three Billboards had begun filming in Sylva, North Carolina.[7]
