Tromsøysundet (Northern Sami: Romssanuorri) is a strait located in the municipality of Tromsø in Troms county, Norway. It separates the island of Tromsøya (the location of the Tromsø city centre) from the mainland east of the island. The strait is crossed by the Tromsøysund Tunnel (E8 highway) and the Tromsø Bridge. The strait is about 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) long and it ranges from about 600 metres (2,000 ft) to 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) wide. The strait connects to the Balsfjorden and Straumsfjorden to the south and into the Kvalsundet and Grøtsundet to the north.[1]
