Siskiyou Media Council

The Siskiyou Media Council is a non-profit organization that runs Mountain Community Television Channel 15, based in Mount Shasta, California, and Yreka Community Television Channel 4. The main offices are located in Mt. Shasta and the studios are located at the Learning Resources Center television studio at College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California.

History

Yreka Community Television

Yreka Community Television Channel 4 (commonly known as YCTV 4) is a small public-educational-and-government-access (PEG) cable TV station based in Yreka, California. The studios are located North Main Street in Yreka and the station is broadcast daily on Northland Cable Television's Yreka area cable system on channel 4. It is run by the city of Yreka.

Mountain Community Television

Mountain Community Television Channel 15 (commonly known as MCTV 15) is a small public-educational-and-government-access (PEG) cable TV station based in Mount Shasta, California. It was founded in 2002 by Diana J. Limjoco, its first Chairman, Exec. Director, Producer. The station is broadcast on Northland Cable Television's Mount Shasta area cable system on channel 15.

Merger

In 2006, the two stations merged into what is now known as the Siskiyou Media Council, a non-profit organization who is responsible for the management of Public Access Television in both ends of the county. In July 2008, SMC contracted Mt. Shasta resident Audra Gibson, former mayor of Mt. Shasta, to become the executive director of both stations. Audra brought 9 years of experience to SMC and has worked with Diana Limjoco to establish the non-profit in 2002 and promoted the mission of MCTV 15 to establish programming and facilities for public use. She brought years of volunteer participation as MCTV’s Secretary, President, Government liaison for the cities of Weed, Mt. Shasta and Dunsmuir, as well as producer and production volunteer.

Facilities

Siskiyou Media Council's broadcast and production facilities are located inside the television studios at the Learning Resources Center on the main campus of College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California, which has served to educate students on television broadcasting and video production since 1991. Both stations are on the respective Northland Communications systems in Siskiyou County.
