The city of Khovd is connected to the Russian power grid and subject to blackouts if it falls behind in its payments. Domestic and international tourism and sports hunting have always been a sizable industry of Khovd province with natural beauty such as fresh and salt water lakes, snow-capped mountains, green valleys and caves as well as ancient rock paintings and fortresses being the main sightseeing attractions.

Animal herding is the main economy of this province.
