West Park School is a mixed secondary school located in the Spondon area of Derby in the English county of Derbyshire.[1]
The school was formerly known as Spondon Park Grammar School. It became Spondon School in 1971 when it merged with Spondon House School. West Park School was created by the merger by default of the former Spondon School which was located on two adjoining sites. These sites being the 'upper school' (1960s, grey brick, concrete and glass) at the top of the hillside, the current site, and the 'lower school' (1970s, grey brick, brown tile, timber and glass) at the foot of the hillside, which burned down due to arson on 28 January 2002. The new name comes from the two roads which lead to it.
Previously a foundation school administered by Derby City Council, West Park School was converted to academy status on 1 April 2011. However the school continues to coordinate with Derby City Council for admissions. West Park school offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils.[2]
