- A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck southeast of Hokkaido, Japan on March 18 at a depth of 35.0 km.[2]
- A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Atacama, Chile on March 19 at a depth of 0.0 km.[3]

- A magnitude 7.5 earthquake followed shortly afterwards by a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Blagoevgrad Province, Bulgaria on April 4 at a depth of 0.0 km.[4] There was some major damage reported.[5][6]
- A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Chiayi County, Taiwan on April 24 at an unknown depth. Three people were killed, 10 were injured and 66 homes destroyed in Chiayi County.[7]
